What exactly is THE 199X?

We're a small brand making silly tees and other merch you won't find anywhere else. We specialize in hand-drawn custom pet portraits and whimsical original designs. No AI. Made by real humans, for real humans (and their pets).

Do you use AI to create your artwork?

Absolutely not. Every single design; from our original tees to your custom pet portrait; is hand-drawn by a real human artist. We're pretty loud about this. If you ever see "AI" on our site, it stands for Actual Imagination.

What sizes do your tees come in?

Our boxy vintage-wash tees are available in XS through 2XL. They run slightly oversized by design; that's the vibe. If you're between sizes, we recommend sizing down. Full size guide is available on each product page.

How do I care for my tee?

Turn it inside out, cold wash, hang dry. The vintage-wash effect means these tees are already broken in. Treat them gently and they'll last forever. Or at least a very long time. We're not making promises about forever.

What is the Poorly Drawn Pet Portrait?

It's exactly what it sounds like: a hand-drawn portrait of your pet that is intentionally, lovingly, chaotically imperfect. We draw your pet by hand, with real effort, and with zero apology for the results. People cry over them. People laugh over them. Usually both.

What are the tiers and what do I get?

$5 - The Portrait: a hand-drawn digital portrait of your pet delivered same day. $10 - Portrait + Zodiac: same as above, plus we determine your pet's zodiac sign based purely on their vibe. Scientifically dubious. Spiritually accurate. $20 - Portrait on a Mug: we draw your pet and print it on a mug, shipped straight to you.

How do I order?

Fill out the required info, add to cart and complete checkout. We'll take it from there. Digital portraits are delivered same day. Mugs ship in 5–10 business days.

How does the zodiac reading work?

We look at your pet's photo, study their energy, and assign them a zodiac sign based entirely on vibes. Is it accurate? We think so. Can we prove it? No. Will you agree once you read it? Maybe.

Can I request changes to my portrait?

The portraits are intentionally imperfect; that's the whole point and part of the charm. We offer a MAX of 2 revisions. However, if we got something factually wrong (wrong number of legs, missing an eye your pet actually has), just reach out and we'll fix it.

What if my pet has passed away?

We'd be honored to draw them. Memorial portraits are some of the most meaningful ones we make. Just let us know when you reach out and we'll handle your order with extra care.

What is the Classic Pet Portrait Tee?

The Classic Pet Portrait Tee uses our signature retro frame template. Your pet gets hand-illustrated into the frame with their name above it in bold retro lettering, and your choice of background color. It's more polished than the Poorly Drawn Portrait but still full of personality. Printed on a boxy vintage-wash tee.

How is this different from the Poorly Drawn Portrait?

The Poorly Drawn Portrait is intentionally chaotic and charming; hand-drawn with personality and humor. The Classic Portrait is more refined; your pet illustrated into a polished retro frame with their name set in bold lettering. Both are hand-drawn by a real human. One is a vibe. The other is a statement.

What photo should I send?

A clear, well-lit, front-facing photo works best. We need to see their face; eyes especially. Avoid blurry, dark, or heavily filtered photos. The better the photo, the better the portrait. (This is true in art and in life.)

How do I pick my background color?

Just select which one you want the most! We offer blue, red, green, purple, orange, pink, yellow, and black. Can't decide? Blue is the classic. You can preview all the options on the product page; click a swatch to see how each color looks.

How long does the Classic Portrait take?

Usually 5–10 business days from when we receive your photo and details. We send you a preview before printing because we want you to love it.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes! Free shipping on all orders over $50 within the US. Orders under $50 have a flat shipping rate.

How long does shipping take?

Standard US shipping is 3–7 business days after your order ships. For custom orders, add the illustration time on top of that. International shipping varies by destination; typically 10–21 business days. We'll send you a tracking number once your order is on its way.

Can I return or exchange my order?

All sales are final.

My order arrived damaged. What do I do?

We're sorry; that's never fun. Email us with your order number and a photo of the damage within 7 days of delivery and we'll send a replacement immediately. No hoops, no hassle.
